Fourteen People Killed in Two Separate Attacks in KwaZulu-Natal

Fourteen people have been killed in two separate shooting incidents in KwaZulu-Natal.

In the first attack, eight people were killed and two others wounded in an alleged drug-related attack on a homestead in the province.  

Police say they were informed of the attack at Esigcakini on Friday night. 

It is understood neighbours heard gunshots emanating from the homestead and upon investigation made the grim discovery. 

The police’s Jay Naicker said the deceased are aged between 15 to 41 including a 17-year-old female.

“Police at Richmond are investigating eight counts of murder and two of attempted murder. According to information gathered from the community, it appears that the homestead was being used as a drug den and it is suspected that the attack might be drug related.” 

In the second incident, gunmen killed six people aged between 17 and 26 years old at a tuckshop in Amaoti. 

The attack happened on Friday when a vehicle with three suspects arrived at a tuck shop and opened fire at a group of men who were seated behind the tuckshop. 

The police’s Jay Naicker said they are investigating six counts of a murder. 

“At this stage information gathered from the scene indicates that the deceased were seated behind the tuck shop, consuming drugs and that the attack might be drug realted. We are appealing to anyone who may have information with regards to the identity of the deceased to contact police.”

Naidoo has urged anyone with information about the attacks to contact police.
