SA Records 5,668 New COVID-19 Infections & 255 Hospitalisations

South Africa’s COVID-19 infections has increased by another 5,668 new cases. 

This pushes the country’s known caseload since the start of the pandemic to more than 3,534,000.

This increase represents a 14 % positivity rate.

One hundred and nineteen people have also died in South Africa after contracting the coronavirus, pushing the national death toll to 92,649.

So far 3,298,672 people have recovered.

On the vaccination front, about 28.4 million jabs of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered so far. 

The majority of new cases today are from Kwa-Zulu Natal with (25%), followed by Gauteng at (23%), Western Cape 20%,Eastern Cape 10% and Free State 6%.

Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West each accounted for 4% respectively; and Northern Cape accounted for 3% of the new infections.

The NICD says there has also been an increase of 255 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours.
