Eskom says the power system is under severe pressure and has appealed to South Africans to use electricity sparingly.

The power utility has urged people to switch off all unnecessary lights, geyser, pool pump, and non-essential appliances.

Eskom implemented stage 2 load shedding in December last year when it announced the failure of a generation unit each at Kusile, Medupi and Arnot power stations, as well as a delay of a unit returning to service at Tutuka power station.

Eskom announced in December that Unit 4 of the Kusile Power Station Project has been connected to the national grid for the first time which is expected to ease some of the power constraints facing the country.
