Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the kidnapping of an 11 year old girl who was snatched outside the E.P. Baumann Primary School in Mayfair in November last year.

The Grade 5 learner was waiting in line to be sanitized and screened when she was kidnapped by three suspects with AK47’s in a Silver/White Toyota Yaris.

Members of the Crime Intelligence Anti-Kidnapping Task Team and police pounced on a house in Devland, Soweto on Tuesday night where they found the girl.

Maha Qassim was rescued unharmed and taken to a medical facility for a check-up and has since been reunited with her family.

The police’s Robert Netshiunda said the investigation is continuing.

“The suspects who were at the house evaded arrest and a 40 year old man was arrested in Mozambique on Friday, 31 December 2021 and Interpol is busy with the extradition process.”

Netshiunda said two other suspects, 50-year-old Ayanda Kekana and 36-year-old Fortune Kambule Ndlovu were arrested in December 2021 in connection with the same kidnapping.

“Their bail application was denied when they appeared at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on 7 December 2021. They will be back in court on Friday, 7 January 2022.“

Authorities were commended in their efforts to rescue the girl.
