KwaZulu-Natal police have condemned an alleged mob justice attack after a 25-year-old man was burnt to death in Verulam.

The man was suspected of burning down the shack of his ex-girlfriend in the Tandani area on Christmas Day with her 6-year-old son in it after he had an argument with her.

Upon arrival at the scene police found the burnt body of the little boy.

The police’s Thembeka Mbele said the community located the ex-boyfriend the next day and allegedly set him alight.

“He sustained burn wounds on the body and was confirmed dead at the scene. Two cases of murder and arson  were opened at Verulam for further  investigation. The community is urged to refrain from taking law into their own hands and let police continue doing their job by investigating and arresting the suspects involved in criminal activities.”

Mbele said community members who continue to commit such acts will face the full might of the law.
