JMPD Warns Residents Living on Banks of Flooded Jukskei River to Evacuate

The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) is calling on residents living close to the Jukskei River to leave their homes because the river is flooding.

Heavy downpours have been recorded across several parts of the country with South African Weather Service (SAWS) warning that certain areas my experience flooding.

The JMPD’s Wayne Minnaar confirmed that the Jukskei River is flooding.

“It has washed away a wall of a brick and mortar house and there’s a threat of the rest of the houses to be washed away. There are a total of eleven people who have been moved away from closed to the water edge.”

Minnaar said there are concerns that the water level could rise with persistent rain.
