CSA Calls on SABC to Broadcast India Series on Radio
Cricket South Africa (CSA) has called on the SABC to reconsider broadcasting ball by ball coverage of the Test and ODI series against India.
SABC general manager for sport Gary Rathbone says Radio 2000’s decision not to carry the series is based on the station’s path to becoming a commercial station.
The three-Test series that starts on 26 December at SuperSport Park in Centurion will be broadcast live on SABC3, but the radio platform that reaches out further than any TV medium will not be having any cricket.
CSA says fans have already been disappointed at not being able to attend the forthcoming Test and ODI series against India due to COVID-19.
“The India series has generated huge interest across the country (and globally), with fans eager to get a blow-by-blow account of their favourite sport. With not being able to be at the stadiums cricket fans will be relying on broadcasters to enjoy the live action.”
CSA is hopeful that through the radio broadcast, fans will get to rally behind the Proteas as they take on India in an historic encounter, which also marks the 30th Anniversary of friendship between CSA and the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
