SA Hits 3 Million COVID-19 Recoveries Mark

Another 18,224 people have recovered from from COVID-19 in South Africa.

This takes the total number of recoveries to 3,010,513.

At the same time, the country has recorded another 15,465 new COVID-19 infections.

This pushes the country’s known caseload since the start of the pandemic to more than 3,308,000.  

This increase represents a 30.7 % positivity rate.

Three more people have also died in South Africa after contracting the coronavirus, pushing the national death toll to 90,348.

The majority of new cases today are from KwaZulu-Natal with (27%), followed by Gauteng (23%), the Western Cape 18%, Eastern Cape 8% and Free State 7%.

Mpumalanga accounted for 6%, Limpopo and North West each 4% and Northern Cape accounted for 2% of the new cases

On the vaccination front, about 27.5 million jabs of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered so far. 

The NICD says there has also been an increase of 87 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours.
