SA Records 16,080 New COVID-19 Infections as KZN Surpasses Gauteng with Majority of Cases
South Africa has recorded another 16,080 new COVID-19 infections.
This pushes the country’s known caseload since the start of the pandemic to more than 3,292,600.
This increase represents a 28.8 % positivity rate.
Forty eight more people have also died in South Africa after contracting the coronavirus, pushing the national death toll to 90,345.
So far 2,992,300 people have recovered.
The majority of new cases today are from KwaZulu-Natal with (26%), followed by Gauteng (21%), Western Cape 18%, Eastern Cape accounted for 10%, North West 8% and Free State 7%.
Mpumalanga accounted for 4%; Limpopo and Northern Cape each accounted for 3% of the new cases.
On the vaccination front, about 27.5 million jabs of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered so far.
The NICD says there has also been an increase of 215 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours.
