Police Seize Explosives Meant to Allegedly Blow Up N3 Mooi River Toll Following Court Ruling for Zuma to go Back to Jail

KwaZulu-Natal police have seized a number of explosives from a house in Mooi River, which were reportedly meant to be used to blow up national key points. 

IOL reports police said an informant gave officers information on a location where a large quantity of explosives were being kept, allegedly to be used to blow up N3 Mooi River Toll Plaza, following the court ruling that Zuma should return to prison.

Police said the information was then passed on to the Pietermaritzburg K9 Unit.

“The members proceeded to an abandoned house in Bruntville area of Mooi River with the assistance of PMB K9 Storm.”

The police’s Vish Naidoo said the explosives have been confirmed to be Viper booster which are generally used in mining. 

“Although, not confirmed yet, it is suspected that these explosive may have been intended for Auntomated Teller Machine (ATM) bombings and/or Cash-in-Transit (CIT) heists as similar explosives are known to have been used for this purpose before.”

Naidoo said no arrests have yet been made.

On Wedneday the Pretoria High Court ruled that the decision to place former President Jacob Zuma on medical parole was unlawful and that he must go back to jail.

Zuma was released in September, just months after the Constitutional Court sentenced him to 15 months imprisonment for contempt of court.
