A hiker believed to be in his 50s has suffered a critical head injury after falling 10 meters down a cliff face in the Mountain Sanctuary Park near Buffelspoort in the Magaliesberg.

ER24 paramedics say they arrived on scene on Friday night together with the Mountain Search and Rescue and SARZA Search & Rescue who were training in the area.

ER24’s Russel Meiring says the injured patient was flown to a private hospital by helicopter for further care after the rescue.

“It took the team approximately 30 minutes to reach the patient who had fallen from the slippery rock face and into a small body of water, hitting his head. Despite his injuries, the patient was in a stable condition.”
