UAE’s Mohammed Bin Sulayem Elected as New FIA President
The United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) Mohammed Bin Sulayem has been elected as the new president of the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile).
Bin Sulayem garnered 61.62 per cent of the vote beating Britains Graham Stroker to become the new head of motorsport’s governing body on Friday.
Born in Dubai, the 60-year-old is a 14-time Middle East rally champion and has been vice-president for sport at the FIA, in addition to a member of the World Motor Sport Council.
Bin Sulayem said he is honoured to be elected president of the FIA
“I thank all the Member Clubs for their esteem and trust.”
Todd says a chapter has come to an end.
“We can be collectively satisfied of our achievements in motor sport and mobility over the past 12 years. I would like to warmly thank my team, our administration and all our FIA Member Clubs for their unwavering commitment, enthusiasm and resilience.”
With Jean Todt standing down after 12 years, Bin Sulayem becomes the first non-European president of motorsport’s world governing body.
