453 More Hospitalised for COVID-19 as SA Records 22,391 New Infections

South Africa has recorded another 22,391 new Coronavirus infections. 

This pushes the country’s known caseload since the start of the pandemic to more than 3,093,400.

This increase represents a 29.8% positivity rate.

Twenty-two people have also died in South Africa after contracting the coronavirus, pushing the national death toll to 90.060

So far 2,870,329 people have recovered from the pandemic. 

The majority of new cases today are from Gauteng with (53%), followed by KwaZulu-Natal (12%), the Western Cape accounted for 10%, North West 6% and Free State, Limpopo and Mpumalanga each accounted for 5%.

The Eastern Cape accounted for 4%; and Northern Cape accounted for 1% of the new cases. 

On the vaccination front, about 26,8 million jabs of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered so far. 

The NICD says there has also been an increase of 453 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours.
