The Johannesburg Metro Police (JMPD) have demolished illegal structures erected in Hospital Hills in Lenasia South.

It is understood over one hundred sheet metal and fifty brick and mortar structures were removed on Tuesday.

The mushrooming of illegal shacks and unauthorised land grabs have become a common occurrence in and around Lenasia South.

The JMPD’s Wayne Minnaar says they only demolished empty structures which were unoccupied.

“These illegal structures were demolished after complaints were received both from the residents as well as the local councillors. Any structure which is erected without permission from the city of approved plans is declared illegal.”
