SA Record 19,842 New COVID-19 Infections, 374 Hospitalisations

South Africa has recorded another 19,842 new Coronavirus infections. 

This pushes the country’s known caseload since the start of the pandemic to more than 3,071,000.  

This increase represents a 26.8% positivity rate.

Thirty-six people have also died in South Africa after contracting the coronavirus, pushing the national death toll to 90.038

So far 2,867,966 people have recovered from the pandemic. 

The majority of new cases today are from Gauteng with (59%), followed by KwaZulu-Natal and Western Cape with (10% each) while Mpumalanga accounted for 6%; North West accounted for 5% and Limpopo accounted for 4%.

The Eastern Cape and Free State each accounted for 3% and Northern Cape accounted for 1% of the new cases. 

On the vaccination front, about 26,6 million jabs of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered so far. 

The NICD says there has also been an increase of 374 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours.
