SA Daily COVID-19 Infections Surge to 11,125

South Africa has recorded another 11,125 new Coronavirus infections. 

This pushes the country’s known caseload since the start of the pandemic to more than 3,031,600. 

This increase represents a 23.8% positivity rate.

One person has also died in South Africa after contracting the coronavirus, pushing the national death toll to 89,966

The majority of new cases today are from Gauteng with (71%) followed by the Western Cape (7%) while KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 6% and North West accounted for 4% and Mpumalanga and Limpopo accounted for 3%.

The Free State and Eastern Cape each accounted for 2% and the Northern Cape accounted for less than 1% of the new cases. 

On the vaccination front, about 26,3 million jabs of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered so far. 

The NICD says there has also been an increase of 28 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours.
