Ramaphosa Calls “Family Meeting” on Sunday at 8pm

The Presidency has announced that President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the nation at 8pm on Sunday on developments in the country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The President’s address follows meetings of the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC) the President’s Coordinating Council and Cabinet.

The “Family Meeting” comes after the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) on Thursday confirmed that 22 cases of a new variant of the Coronavirus B.1.1.529 or Omicron had been detected in South Africa, Botswana and Hong Kong.

The country has also seen a rapid rise in new Coronavirus infections with more than 2,800 cases reported on Saturday.
