The Jamiatul Ulama South Africa (JUSA) has announced that the OR Tambo International Airport (ORTIA) Musalla is now open for Muslim travellers to read their salaah.

The prayer facility was closed following the outbreak of COVID-19 and when travel restriction was implemented to stop the spread of the virus.

Last week Jamiat SA said it facilitates and manages the Musalla on behalf of the Muslim community at the airport under the supervision of the Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA)/

Jamiat SA says a standard operating procedure (SOP) has been put in place to faciliate the reopening the musalla.

“Alhamdulillah! Following discussions on a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) with Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA), the Musalla at the OR Tambo International Airport has today reopened. According to the SOP, the operation of the Musalla will be under COVID-19 control regulations where users of the facility shall among other measures be required to wear a mask, observe social-distancing and sanitise.”

Jamiat SA has appealed to the community to adhere to these measures in order to ensure compliance and not pose any challenges and unnecessarily inconvenience others.
