[WATCH] Criminals Rob Jewellery Store in Oriental Plaza
A group of criminals have allegedly robbed a jewellery store at the Oriental Plaza in Fordsburg.
It is understood the robbers entered the shopping complex early on Tuesday.
It a tweet, crime activist Yusuf Abramjee says there was a shootout between the criminals and the security at the Oriental Plaza.
“Robbery at a jewellery store: Oriental Plaza JHB. Gang of 12. Shootout with security guards. One guard shot and injured.”
In a statement, Vision Tactical says one of its guards including a construction worker sustained injuries.
“Twelve suspects believed to be carrying automatic rifles have fled the mall. The scene is under control of the South African Police Service and relevant law enforcement and medical responders. The mall is currently safe to trade however please be cautious of the taped off crime scene area.”
Last week, a security guard and a shopper were shot during an armed robbery at a jewellery store Menlyn Park Shopping Centre
