South Africa Passes 21 Million for COVID-19 Vaccine Jabs

The Health Department has announced that South Africa has now passed the 21 million mark for total COVID-19 jabs administered since the start of the country’s vaccination rollout programme.

The department says more than 205,000 doses were distributed in the past 24 hours, pushing the total to 21 011 187 doses administered to more than 14 million people.

The Health Department’s data shows that the Western Cape is leading the race so far, with 45.38% of its adults having received at least one dose of the jab, followed by 42.60% in Free State, 42.16% in Limpopo and 41.88% in the Eastern Cape.

Meanwhile, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) says 31 913 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, with 520 new cases, representing a 1.6% positivity rate.

KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 100 new infections, followed by 89 cases in the Western Cape, 74 in Gauteng, 71 in the Northern Cape, 69 in the Free State, 39 in the North West, 34 in the Eastern Cape, 32 in Mpumalanga and 12 in Limpopo.
