[WATCH] Robertsham Substation Explodes – Joburg Emergency Services Containing Fire

Johannesburg Emergency Services have confirmed that a fire has engulfed the electricity substation in Robertsham near the masjid.

It is understood the electricity box allegedly exploded just after 8pm on Monday.

Johannesburg Emergency Services Robert Mulaudzi says the cause of the fire will be investigated.

“Firefighters are on site extinguishing that fire. At this stage there have been no injuries that have been reported.”

In a Tweet, Gauteng Traffic Police say electricity in the entire area has been switched off as emergency services try to contain the fire.

“Treat all affected affected faulty / offline Traffic light controlled intersections as 4 compulsory stops.”

In a statement, City Power says two main transformers are currently gutted.

The electricity outage from the fire has affected a number of areas including Robertsham, Booysens, Crown Gardens, Ridgeway, part of Mondeor, Ormonde, Winchester Hills, Southdale and Nasrec among other areas.
