Protesting residents have once again blocked off the Soweto highway with rocks over electricity issues.

Traffic has been affected on Wednesday with the Johannesburg Metro Police advising motorists to use alternate routes.

The JMPD’s Wayne Minnaar said: “Protestors have blocked off Soweto Highway at Immink Drive in Diepkloof, Soweto. Motorists can use provincial road as alternative routes.”

Minnaar said officers are monitoring the situation.

Last week residents also took to the streets after giving Eskom an ultimatum to reconnect their electricity or face further protests.

It was disconnected due to illegal connections, meter bypassing and residents buying electricity from so-called ghost vendors.
