14 Killed, 4 Others Injured After Two Mini-Bus Crash in the Free State
At least fourteen people have been killed and four others injured after two minibus taxis collided head-on along the R57 outside Reitz in the Free State.
It is understood one minibus was on its way to Gauteng from Ficksburg, while the other was traveling to Fouriesburg, when they collided early Saturday morning.
The Transport Department’s Lawrence Venkile said transport minister Fikile Mbalula, is deeply saddened by this tragic crash and has conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives.
“Loss of life on our roads is a tragedy we must all work towards curtailing. The festive season is characterized by increased traffic as holiday makers make their way home or to places of leisure and irresponsible behaviour that includes drunk driving. We must all be vigilant and obey the rules of the road at all times.”
Venkile said the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) will conduct an investigation on the root cause of the crash.
