12,979 New COVID-19 Infection in SA, 126 More Deaths
South Africa’s COVID-19 infections has increased by another 12,979 new cases
This pushes the country’s known caseload since the start of the pandemic to more than 3,446,500
This increase represents a 28.1 % positivity rate.
One hundred and twenty-six more people have also died in South Africa after contracting the coronavirus, pushing the national death toll to 91,061.
So far 3,159,143 people have recovered.
On the vaccination front, about 27.8 million jabs of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered so far.
The NICD says there has also been an increase of 472 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, government has approved changes to the Adjusted Alert Level 1 COVID-19 regulations including lifting the curfew ahead of the new year.
The changes follows meetings of the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC) and the President’s Coordinating Council (PCC) on Thursday which received updates on the 4th wave of COVID-19 driven by the Omicron variant.
